Meet the Grafana Labs Team: Annanay Agarwal, a developer who contributes to Cortex
As Grafana Labs continues to grow, we’d like you to get to know the team members who are building the cool stuff you’re using. Check out the latest of our Friday team profiles.
Meet Annanay!
Name: Annanay Agarwal
Grafana Labs Developer Annanay Agarwal
Current location/time zone:
Bangalore, a city in Southern India. (GMT +5:30)
What do you do at Grafana Labs?
Hop between meetings while working on the Cortex project. I also help manage the tracing infrastructure internally.
What open source projects do you contribute to?
My journey in open source started with a Google Summer of Code project under the LLVM Compiler Infrastructure. I worked on improving the performance of TensorFlow kernels using Polyhedral compilation. After college, I developed an interest in the observability space and contributed to the JaegerTracing and OpenTelemetry projects, and I now hack on Cortex and the ecosystem of projects around operating it. Lucky to be working with some amazing engineers involved in the project!
I hope to contribute to Loki one day, because I really like the project. :)
What are your GitHub and Twitter handles?
I’m annanay25 on Github and @mrannanay on Twitter.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I read books, listen to music, and binge on Netflix. I also like playing football and badminton! Thanks to the Coronavirus lockdown I’m learning to cook as well.
What superpowers do you wish you had (or do you have!)?
To be able to fly. I’ve always been fascinated by airplanes, and I hope I get to pilot one someday!
What’s the last thing you binge-watched?
Brooklyn Nine-Nine. [Yells “Nine-nine!”]
Do you like to code in silence, with music or ambient noise on your headphones, or with people talking around you?
I mostly code in silence but sometimes listen to pop music. I really like music. It puts me in a good mood.
Favorite ice cream flavor?
It’s a tie between Chocolate and Cookie ‘n’ Cream.
