Meet the Grafana Labs Team: Cyril Tovena
As Grafana Labs continues to grow, we’d like you to get to know the team members who are building the cool stuff you’re using. Check out the latest of our Friday team profiles.
Meet Cyril!
Name: Cyril Tovena
Grafana Labs Software Engineer Cyril Tovena
Current location/time zone: EST, Montréal, Canada.
What do you do at Grafana Labs? I’m a software engineer working on open source, distributed systems such as Loki and Cortex, which are written in Go.
What open source projects do you contribute to? I’m currently focusing on Loki, our index-free log aggregation system inspired by Prometheus. On Loki, I’ve been working mainly on performance optimization, LogQL (log query language similar to PromQL), and other integrations like Docker and promtail. Since Loki shares a lot of code with Cortex, I also from time to time contribute to Cortex. With my free time left I try to keep contributing to Agones, a solution to scale dedicated game servers on Kubernetes.
What are your GitHub and Twitter handles? GitHub: cyriltovena. Twitter: @kuqd.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to play video games and soccer with my son. I also enjoy hiking and skating with my golden retriever.
What’s your favorite new gadget or tech toy? When starting at Grafana, I acquired the 4k Retina IMac, and I really enjoy working on it.
Do you like to code in silence, with music or ambient noise on your headphones, or with people talking around you? I love to listen to folk/indie when coding. Iit helps me focus and keeps me in a good mood.
What’s the last thing you binge-watched? Stranger Things 3 in one week!
Spaces or tabs? God forgive me, I’m used to tabs. Luckily we don’t have to care much about this with gofmt.
What superhero powers do you wish you had (or do you have!)? I’m a dad, that’s my super power!
