A user's guide to the open source Grafana App Platform

Based on the lessons learned from building and running the SLO app, Grafana Labs has launched the open source Grafana App Platform to help developers create similarly complex apps tightly integrated with Grafana. In this talk, Distinguished Engineer Ryan McKinley and Senior Software Engineer Stephanie Hingtgen will demonstrate the app platform’s main features, including schemas and versioning for objects and APIs, object storage, watching objects, admission control for objects, and as-code capabilities.

Stephanie is a backend software engineer with a focus on cloud technologies. She works on Grafana Cloud, including Private Data Source Connect. Stephanie has a masters degree in computer science and previously worked on IP video solutions and machine learning to detect cancer.

Ryan is a Distinguished Engineer at Grafana Labs. Before joining the company, he was the leading community contributor to the open source Grafana project. Ryan has worked as a software engineer at Makani and Natel Energy, where he implemented Grafana to help run next-generation hydropower plants. He received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Visual Arts from UC San Diego and a Master of Science from the Media Lab at MIT.
